The Parliamentary candidate for Banda constituency, Joe Danquah has called for a peaceful atmosphere in the 2024 general elections.
However, while addressing the media at Banda Sabiye in the Banda district of the Bono region, where he was celebrating his birthday and commissioning his radio station, he emphasized that Ghana is the only country we have and therefore we need to protect it and not engage in any act of violence.
Speaking on the 2024 general elections, the envisaged legislator urged Ghanaians especially the people of Banda to remain calm and united as a common destiny binds them for development. I want to encourage the people of Banda district to let peace be the first priority and always choose peace first.
He referenced the conspicuous incidents of killings during the 2020 elections, noting that such atmospheres do not augur well for the development of the country's democracy and the general development of the constituency.
Meanwhile, he expressed his desire to witness views and opinions expressed without hurting each other and thus urged political and non-political actors to prioritize peace and unity in the electoral process during and after the 2024 general elections.
He reiterated, "Let's remain peaceful, let us remain united since we are one people. Elections will come and go. We must be careful of our choice of words as a people. Let me remind you that if we're going to kill people in every election, then we'll all be dead sooner or later. Don't be deceived by what you will get to your pocket".
We should all try not to engage in any form of violence and instead love one another and not let politics to divide us as a people or create fight amongst us. The friendship, brotherly, sisterly and family love will still continue no matter what and the reason we must value lives desist from violence but must make peace reign because it's priceless.
He therefore encouraged potential voters in the Banda area to participate in the ongoing limited registration exercise by the electoral commission.
He said the exercise is a civic duty especially when one has turned to the qualifications required to register and must do so to be able to vote in the main general elections.
I am urging all minors or persons who are underaged not to try registering in the going voter registration exercise but should allow only those who have attained the right age to do so. He finally warned ineligible registrants to desist from being enticed by party leaders to unlawfully register.
