King Hezekiah was one of the few righteous kings of Judah who enacted religious reforms and sought to bring the nation back to the worship of Yahweh. Despite his faithfulness, Hezekiah faced a severe trial that tested his faith and leadership.
The Passage Explained
**Verse 1**: "In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, 'This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.'"
At the outset, Hezekiah is gravely ill. The prophet Isaiah delivers a message from God, informing Hezekiah that his illness will lead to death and advising him to settle his affairs. This stark prophecy underscores the seriousness of Hezekiah's condition and the inevitability of death as perceived at that moment.
**Verses 2-3**: "Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, 'Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.' And Hezekiah wept bitterly."
