Police arrest 2 students, as clash between 2 technical schools leaves 8 injured.
Students of Nkoranza Technical Institute (NTI) attacked students of Nkoranza Senior High Technical School (SECTHEC) in the Bono East region on Monday, June 12, 2024, leaving eight injured and damaging school properties.
The Ghana Police Service has arrested two students in connection with a violent clash between students of the Nkoranza Technical Institute (NTI) and Nkoranza Senior High Technical School (SHTS) in the Bono East Region.
The clash occurred Monday, June 12, 2024, at Nkoranza SHTS, and left eight students injured, leaving a trail of damaged school properties and a number of vehicles belonging to teachers.
The police intervened bringing the riot under control and two students have been arrested with efforts ongoing to apprehend other perpetrators.
However, the Police were able to bring the riot under control, and relative calm had since returned at the school, a reliable Police source confirmed.
According to sources, the incident occurred after male students of NTI visited Nkoranza SECTHEC on Friday evening, June 7, 2024 to propose to some female students which infuriated male students of SECTHEC, leading to
a misunderstanding which erupted between the visitors and some boys from the schools, which led to the riot.
In an interview with Apiah-Kubi on Fabea FM's "Me Man Ho Dadwen," Isaac Amankwaa the Municipal Education Director of Nkoranza South stated that the situation has been calmed down while investigations continue.
He noted that a committee has been set up by the Bono Regional Minister, the Municipal Chief Executive and the Police Commander to investigate cause of the riot.
Mr Isaac Amankwaa, the Nkoranza South Municipal Director of Education told the Fabea FM that a committee had been set up to investigate the matter, and therefore, called on parents to remain calm. Mr. Isaac Amankwaa emphasized that the situation has been a recurring ritual between the two schools where any minor issue can spark chaos.
He appealed to individuals especially old students and staff who may be influencing the students to desist from doing so and said this will help the students to under that riot is not something good and it can affect their conduct and their discipline.
We want to therefore plead with both schools not to engage in such an act of violence ever again because this has caused problems for the school and also the students themselves.
