Matthew Opoku Prempeh will formally be named Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia's running mate, barring any last-minute alterations. There has been a lot of pressure on Bawumia to make a decision. It was well known, despite the pressure, that the chosen personality would originate from the Ashanti Region. If they select someone from that area, the party thinks they have a chance. Several names surfaced as the top choices. Recall that the energy minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, received 76.27. percent of the vote in polls conducted and was deemed the favored running mate in a report leaked by the National Investigations Bureau.

Many people have come out to criticize the poll organizers for attempting to force Matthew Opoku Prempeh on Bawumia. John Kufuor, the former president, entered the discussion and demanded that Bawumia be allowed to select his candidate. It appears that certain members of the New Patriotic Party are unhappy that NAPO was chosen as the running partner.

The MP for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah Kubi, has questioned NAPO's legitimacy. He claims that a lot of MPs are dissatisfied with NAPO's choices. He questioned the party's decision to appoint NAPO as its running mate without seeking the lawmakers' approval. Appiah Kubi clarified that the reason he and a few other MPs oppose Bawumia's selection of a running mate is that the nominee lacks the necessary stature to help the party win the election.

Appiah Kubi is renowned for leading the group of over eighty NPP lawmakers who stood up and demanded that President Akufo-Addo remove Ken Ofori-Atta from his position as Minister of Finance. "If the president didn't fire Ken, the group claimed, they wouldn't conduct government business in parliament. It is not shocking that Andy is organizing a group of MPs to oppose Bawumia's selection of a running mate once more."

"If I were to make the decision, I, Appiah Kubi, wouldn't pick him. I would choose a candidate whom the legislators, or generals, would accept before going to war. We ought to locate someone who will travel to a member of parliament's district and lead a campaign when the presidential candidate isn't present. That doesn't seem to be the case with this equation. Since he couldn't grasp my hand, how can I declare that I prefer him?" According to Appiah Kubi.
