Chef Smith’s GWR certificate for the longest cooking marathon confirmation is fake!

? The Guinness World Records (GWR) has confirmed that Ghanaian chef Ebenezer Smith, also known as Chef Smith, does not hold the title for the longest cooking marathon (individual).

Chef Smith undertook his cooking marathon from February 1 to March 6, 2024, at the Amadia Shopping Centre in Spintex, Accra, without attracting much public attention. He claimed to have cooked for 820 hours, although his initial target was 1,200 hours.

In a press conference held on Tuesday in Accra, Chef Smith announced that he was the current Guinness World Record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, with a purported time of 802 hours and 25 minutes. However, Justice Agbenorsi from Graphic Online verified with GWR that the certificate Smith presented at the press conference was not authentic.

GWR clarified the situation by stating, "The current and true record holder for the longest cooking marathon (individual) is Alan Fisher from Ireland, who achieved a time of 119 hours, 57 minutes, and 16 seconds in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from September 28 to October 3, 2023."

During his press conference at the La Palm Beach Hotel, Chef Smith prominently displayed a banner that read: "Press Conference. Unveiling the New World Cook-a-thon Record Holder. Millenium Chef Smith from Ghana with an incredible 802 hours, 25 minutes to dethrone Irish King, Alan Fisher."

Despite Smith's claims, GWR declined to comment on whether they would pursue legal action against him for his false record assertion.

A closer examination of the certificate presented by Chef Smith reveals discrepancies compared to authentic GWR certificates issued to previous record holders. For instance, the certificate of Nigerian chef Hilda Baci only mentioned her country, not her nationality, as Smith's did. Additionally, Baci's certificate recorded her attempt duration in hours and minutes (hr and min), whereas Smith's certificate spelled out the duration in full (hours and minutes).

In light of these findings, it is clear that Chef Smith's claim to the longest cooking marathon record is unsubstantiated and not recognized by Guinness World Records.
