Kane Nana Francis elected 64th KNUST SRC president


The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has elected third-year Geography Student, Kane Nana Francis, as President of the Students Representative Council after securing victory in a tightly contested election.


This historic moment marks his assumption of office as the University's 64th SRC President.


Kane Nana Francis won against eight other opponents, securing 8890 votes representing 44.92% of the total vote cast at the end of the polls.


After His landmark triumph serves as a testament to his campaign promises centered around improving student welfare, academic excellence, and enhancing campus life experiences through meaningful engagements among students and university administrators.


Key aspects of his manifesto include addressing accommodation challenges faced by many students, promoting entrepreneurship initiatives among budding innovators, and intensifying advocacy efforts concerning tuition affordability.


Kane seeks to create an environment conducive to personal development, learning, and research.


He will serve alongside his Vice President, Samuel Afful. Kane Nana Francis takes over from Yvvone Osei Adobea failing to win the SRC election last year, Kane managed to make a strong comeback.

This is the second time that the newly elected KNUST SRC president has contested the election.

"I do not see this election as a defeat, but as a stepping stone towards greater things. I will take the lessons learned from this experience, the strength gained from your support, and the wisdom of our university's community to come back stronger than ever," he wrote in the concession speech

True to his words, Kane Nana Francis bounced back stronger to win the KNUST SRC elections one year after losing to the current president, Yvonne Osei Adobea. 

Kane Nana Francis's victory is seen as a testament to his perseverance and dedication to the student body. After losing the previous election, he regrouped and refocused his efforts, engaging with students and listening to their concerns. His campaign promises resonated with the student population, who voted him in with a clear majority.


As the new SRC President, Francis faces several challenges, including addressing the accommodation crisis, improving academic resources, and enhancing campus life experiences. However, with his team, including Vice President Samuel Afful, he is confident in his ability to deliver on his promises and make a positive impact on the student community.
