In a recent attack, suspected Boko Haram terrorists targeted the Jakana Police Station in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State. The attack, which took place early in the morning, resulted in the deaths of a policeman and a woman. The attackers also stole weapons and ammunition from the station.

According to security sources, the insurgents arrived at the police station around 1:00 a.m. and launched a surprise attack. They engaged in a fierce gun battle with the officers that lasted until 3:00 a.m. The attackers managed to overpower the police, gaining entry to the station and looting its arsenal. In the process, they set fire to two patrol vehicles and a motorcycle.

The destroyed vehicles included one belonging to the police and another used by the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), a local group assisting security forces in combating Boko Haram. The loss of these vehicles adds to the challenges faced by security personnel in the region.

Hon. Abbas Ali Abari, the Chairman of Konduga Local Government, confirmed the attack to journalists. He assured the public that more details would be provided as soon as they were available. Efforts to obtain a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer of Borno State, Nahun Kenneth, were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or messages.

Jakana is a town located along the Damaturu-Maiduguri expressway, approximately 45 kilometers from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. This area has been a frequent target of Boko Haram due to its strategic location and the ongoing conflict in the region.

The attack has heightened fear and insecurity among residents. Many community members are concerned about the increasing boldness of these attacks and the potential for further violence. The ability of Boko Haram to strike at a police station highlights the ongoing threat they pose to security forces and civilians alike.

Local authorities are expected to enhance security measures in response to this attack. The Nigerian military and police are likely to increase patrols and checkpoints along major routes to prevent similar incidents. Collaboration with vigilante groups like the CJTF is crucial for maintaining security in vulnerable areas.
