In a shocking incident at Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) in the Northern Region, a 20-year-old student named Abubakari Abdul Majid has been detained by the police after allegedly shooting a fellow student. The incident has raised concerns among students, parents, and school authorities alike.

The unfortunate event occurred when Majid, who is currently in police custody, accidentally discharged a firearm while posing for photos. The gunshot injured 20-year-old Abdullah Abdul Somed in the arm. Following the incident, school authorities, led by Senior Housemaster Moses Amegatse, acted swiftly to hand Majid over to the police.

According to reports, Majid has been cooperating with the police investigation. During his interrogation, he revealed that the gun did not belong to him. Instead, he identified two other students as the owners of the firearm. However, their names have not yet been disclosed to the public. Majid explained that he had borrowed the gun from one of these students and was holding it when it accidentally went off.

The injured student, Somed, was immediately taken to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for treatment. Medical staff have reported that he is in stable condition and is expected to recover fully. The news of his injury has caused distress among his peers and the larger school community, highlighting the potential dangers of firearms in the hands of students.

In light of the incident, the police have also begun questioning two additional students. These students are believed to have connections to the case, and authorities are working to gather more information about their involvement. The school authorities are collaborating closely with the police to locate the other students involved and to recover the firearm used in the shooting.

The shooting has sparked a broader conversation about the presence of weapons in schools and the need for stricter safety measures. Parents and guardians have expressed their concerns, calling for increased security and vigilance to prevent similar incidents in the future. The school administration has assured the community that they are taking the matter seriously and are committed to ensuring the safety of all students.

Senior Housemaster Moses Amegatse, speaking on behalf of the school, emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe learning environment. He urged students to refrain from bringing any form of weapon to school and encouraged them to report any suspicious activities to the authorities. Moses Amegatse also highlighted the school's efforts to provide counseling and support to students affected by the incident.

The local police have intensified their efforts to investigate the case thoroughly. They are seeking to identify how the firearm was brought into the school and to ensure that all individuals involved are held accountable. This investigation aims to prevent future occurrences and to uphold the safety and security of the school community.
