Nigerian music fans were left stunned when Paul Okoye, better known as Rudeboy, recently opened up about a shocking ordeal involving his twin brother, Peter Okoye, known as Mr P. In a candid radio interview with City FM in Lagos, Rudeboy disclosed that Mr P was behind a petition that led to his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The news came as a surprise to many who have followed the careers of the famous duo, formerly known as P-Square. The brothers, who have had their fair share of public disputes, seemed to have taken their differences to a new and unexpected level.
Rudeboy recounted the distressing experience, explaining that he never imagined their disagreements would escalate beyond music. “This year, I was invited by the EFCC after they received a petition against me from my twin brother. I never thought our beef would get to this extent. I thought it was just music,” he said.
He described the process as highly stressful and invasive. Upon arriving at the EFCC office, Rudeboy was confronted with detailed account statements and was asked to explain every transaction. "At the EFCC office, they had already printed all my account statements and asked me to explain every transaction. I thought, what if I was into fraud? That’s how my brother would have finished me," he said.
Rudeboy cooperated fully with the investigation, despite the increasing intensity of the questioning. “When they asked me to get a lawyer and sureties, I knew it was serious,” he recalled.
The investigation was not a brief affair. It involved multiple sessions, including one where Rudeboy, Mr P, and their elder brother Jude were all present. Finally, after thorough scrutiny, the EFCC concluded that Rudeboy was innocent of all allegations. “One month ago, they called me, my twin brother, and our elder brother, Jude, and said, ‘After all investigations, Paul is innocent. Paul is cleared. Everything you accused him of, we’ve done our investigation and he’s innocent," he explained.
Despite being cleared of all charges, Rudeboy expressed his disappointment over the lack of an apology from his twin brother. “My twin brother still hasn’t apologized for the false accusations,” he noted with evident dismay.
This revelation has added another chapter to the complicated relationship between the Okoye brothers. Fans and observers of the Nigerian music scene have often hoped for reconciliation between the twins, whose combined talents brought them immense success and popularity as P-Square.
The public fallout between Rudeboy and Mr P has been ongoing since their split in 2017. The brothers have since pursued solo careers, with Rudeboy retaining his stage name and Mr P rebranding himself separately. Their split was marked by a series of public disagreements and accusations, but the recent EFCC episode seems to have taken their feud to a more personal and legal dimension.
