Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to recognize the nation's current economic challenges and apologize to Ghanaians during their campaign for the upcoming December 2024 General Elections.
The legislator believes that Ghanaians will not accept the NPP's campaign message unless the party apologizes for the hardships experienced during their governance. He emphasized, “We need to approach the public with humility, apologize to Ghanaians, and acknowledge our mistakes before we can persuade anyone to vote for us. Ignoring the hardships that Ghanaians are facing will result in our message being rejected. We must first admit that there are hardships, ask for another chance for the NPP, and demonstrate that we have learned our lessons.”
At the launch of the NPP Ablekuma South Constituency election campaign, Kennedy Agyapong stressed the importance of unity for the party’s success in the December 7 elections. He advised, “We all need to actively support Dr. Bawumia [NPP flagbearer] to secure a win; none of us can afford to sit back.”
Kennedy Agyapong, renowned for his candid and often controversial remarks, has gained a reputation as a straightforward politician who isn't afraid to criticize his own party. The ruling NPP has come under increased scrutiny and criticism for the country’s economic issues, which the party attributes to the global COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, leading to inflation, unemployment, and widespread economic hardship for many Ghanaians. Despite these external factors, the NPP has faced accusations of economic mismanagement.
With the 2024 General Elections approaching, the NPP is preparing for a crucial campaign. The party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, currently the Vice President, is expected to lead the effort. However, achieving internal party unity and adopting a transparent, honest approach to addressing the nation’s issues are seen as essential for the party’s success in the December 2024 polls
