Gospel artist Nicholas Omane Acheampong has expressed his deep disappointment over what he perceives as neglect and lack of recognition from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) despite his unwavering support for the party over the years.
In a recent interview with Kumasi-based Ash FM, Acheampong, known for his popular song "Zaphenath Panea," revealed that he has been a dedicated supporter of the NPP since 2008. He even went as far as using four of his personal vehicles to aid the party's campaign efforts. However, Acheampong is now speaking out about how his contributions have gone largely unnoticed and unappreciated by the party.
According to Acheampong, despite his long-standing commitment, no one from the NPP has acknowledged his efforts, let alone compensated him. "Since 2008, I have been in support of the NPP. I have used four of my personal cars to campaign for the party," he said during the interview. "But up until now, no one from the party has even given me a pick-up vehicle as compensation."
This feeling of neglect has left Acheampong disheartened, especially considering the significant support he has given to the party over the years. He believes that his experience is not unique and that many other individuals in the creative arts sector share similar sentiments.
Acheampong explained that there are many stakeholders in the creative arts industry who support the NPP but are hesitant to publicly declare their stance because of how the party has treated those who have openly supported them. He noted that these individuals are not necessarily looking for financial rewards but rather recognition and appreciation for their efforts.
"Many of the stakeholders in the creative arts sector are NPP supporters, but they can’t be open about their stance because they’ve seen how the party has treated those who stood up to support them," Acheampong explained. "Most of the creatives who supported NPP do not want money or anything; sometimes, they just want recognition or something to show that they are appreciated. But they get none of that."
Acheampong's comments come at a time when the NPP is gearing up for the upcoming elections. While he believes that former President John Mahama does not pose a significant challenge to the NPP, he strongly suggests that the party could improve their chances of success by showing more appreciation to their supporters.
"John Mahama is not a challenge for the NPP, but they can do much better in the upcoming elections by just appreciating those who supported them," Acheampong stated.
The gospel artist's remarks highlight a broader issue within the political landscape, where loyal supporters often feel neglected or taken for granted by the parties they support. Acheampong's call for recognition and appreciation is a reminder that those who contribute to political campaigns, whether through their resources, time, or talents, deserve to be acknowledged for their efforts. As the elections draw nearer, it remains to be seen whether the NPP will heed this call and take steps to address the concerns of their supporters.
