Manchester United hold Ivan Toney transfer talks in last-minute bid to hijack the Chelsea deal.
The Red Devils are closing in on Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte, but it is also believed that the top officials at Old Trafford have discussed a move for Ivan Toney.
Manchester United are allegedly in talks about signing Ivan Toney before Friday's transfer deadline.
Manchester United are also said to have started preliminary negotiations about signing Toney, who is due to leave Brentford in the coming days.
According to a fresh story from The Evening Standard, the senior brass at Old Trafford and Brentford have conducted preliminary negotiations over a deal for the England star is 28 years old.The Red Devils are close to signing Manuel Ugarte, who will join Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui on the roster.
United had previously been connected with Toney, and finding a new No.9 was a top goal for them this summer. But Zirkzee was signed from Bologna to compete with Rasmus Hojlund, who received a huge contract last summer.
Toney does, however, have Premier League experience, having scored 20 league goals during the 2022/23 season before being suspended for eight months for violating betting rules.
While Toney has yet to make a significant move, his situation is intriguing as the window nears its end. He is said to have a substantial offer from Saudi Arabia on the table, and Chelsea has reportedly discussed a possible departure.
This summer, the Blues have been active and are still looking for a new striker. They have been connected with both Toney and Victor Osimhen, who is looking to leave Napoli, but it seems unlikely that they will try to sign both.
Toney has been left out of Brentford's first two Premier League games due to interest in his services, but Thomas Frank was tight-lipped ahead of Wednesday night's Carabao Cup match against Colchester United.
The Dane said, "I'm always happy when the window closes." Then I don't have to discuss ifs, buts, whens, and maybes, as well as a number of players, including Ivan. It's all about Ivan."
When asked if a deal for Toney was close, Frank responded, "Very good question. I haven't asked about it in the past two or three days, so I'm not sure. He trained effectively all week and maintained a positive mindset."
