Red Bull Salzburg defeated Barcelona to Stefan Bajcetic's signature.

Red Bull Salzburg have emerged victorious in the pursuit of Liverpool's promising 19-year-old midfielder, Stefan Bajcetic, overcoming late competition from Barcelona. According to The Athletic, Salzburg and Liverpool have reached an agreement for the loan of the young Spanish talent. Despite Barcelona's late attempt to secure Bajcetic following an injury to their midfielder Marc Bernal, Salzburg succeeded in clinching the deal.

Bajcetic, who began his footballing journey at Celta Vigo, joined Liverpool in 2021 after seven years in their youth ranks. He quickly made an impact, earning a spot in Liverpool's first team just 18 months later and delivering a standout performance during the 2022/23 season. However, his progress has been hindered by recurring injuries, notably a calf issue that limited his appearances to just three last season.

With Bajcetic now fully recovered, Liverpool have decided to loan him out to ensure he gains regular match experience and returns to peak form. Red Bull Salzburg, seeking to bolster their midfield depth, have been in discussions with Liverpool for some time and view Bajcetic as a key addition to their squad on a temporary basis.

Barcelona’s entry into the race came as a surprise and was a result of their need to find a replacement due to Bernal’s knee ligament injury. However, they were unable to finalize the transfer due to complications related to Financial Fair Play regulations. This allowed Salzburg to finalize their loan agreement with Liverpool for the 2024/25 season.

The financial terms of the loan deal have not been disclosed, but Liverpool is set to receive a significant fee. Stefan Bajcetic is anticipated to travel to Austria shortly to complete the move. The presence of former Liverpool assistant coach Pep Lijnders, now managing Salzburg, likely played a role in securing the deal for the Austrian club.
