Barcelona's midfield superstar has ruled out surgery and is expected to return in two weeks.

FC Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has ruled out the possibility of undergoing surgery and is focusing on a conservative treatment plan for his lingering ankle injury. De Jong, who sustained the injury in a match against Real Madrid back in April, was initially anticipated to make a swift recovery. However, more than four months have passed, and the Netherlands international remains sidelined, with uncertainties surrounding his return.

Recent reports suggested that De Jong might need surgery to fully recover, as his ankle continues to be tender and fragile. Despite this, De Jong has opted to forgo surgical intervention, choosing instead to stick with a conservative approach under the guidance of Barcelona’s physiotherapists. Though surgery was recommended by some of his acquaintances for a complete healing, De Jong has decided to continue his current treatment regimen.

Sources close to the club have noted some progress in De Jong's recovery, indicating that his condition is improving. Since being withdrawn from the Netherlands squad for the Euros, De Jong has been diligently working with the club’s recovery team to expedite his return to full fitness.

Reports suggest that De Jong is making substantial strides with the new physiotherapists who recently joined Barcelona. As a result, it is anticipated that he could be ready to make a return by mid-September, following the international break. De Jong recently underwent tests in the Netherlands to assess his ankle, which revealed positive results and confirmed that his condition is improving.

If these projections hold true, De Jong's return would provide a significant boost to both Barcelona and their head coach, Hansi Flick. The team is currently dealing with a shortage of midfield options, exacerbated by Marc Bernal’s season-ending ACL injury. De Jong's potential comeback would thus be a welcome reinforcement for the squad.
