Tragedy struck on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, when a devastating bus accident claimed the lives of three people, including a mother and her young son. The victims, Linda Piiruong and her three-year-old son Godfred Kaabore were travelling from Nadowli in the Upper West Region to Techiman in the Bono East Region when the bus they were in burst two tyres, leading to a fatal crash.

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Paul Buabeng Donkor, the Upper West Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transportation Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police, the accident occurred around 3 pm at the Ponyentanga Dam. The bus, with registration number AS 9788-22, was carrying 15 passengers, including the driver, when one of the rear tyres disengaged from the wheel, causing the driver to lose control. In a desperate attempt to stabilize the bus, a second tyre also came off, resulting in the passenger door being ripped off and ejecting three passengers, including the mother and son, who were seated near the door.

ASP Donkor revealed that the three victims were trapped under the bus and dragged for a distance, resulting in their tragic deaths. The third victim was identified as 37-year-old Ba-enie Moone. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Wa Regional Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
