Because to an odd condition in his Chelsea contract, Jadon Sancho may rejoin Manchester United in the summer of 2019. On deadline day, the former Red Devils winger moved to Stamford Bridge after earning a last-minute loan deal to Chelsea. Upon his arrival, he was given the number 19 shirt, making him the club's twelfth summer window acquisition.
Sancho's Chelsea deal has a buyout clause after his first season, requiring the Blues to pay between £20 and £25 million for the teenager the following summer. Chelsea might not have to pay for the England player, though, if they place anywhere outside of the top 14 in the Premier League this year.
Fabrizio Romano claims that Sancho's duty won't be activated unless Chelsea finishes "among the first 14." Sancho might yet return to Old Trafford if the Blues, who finished sixth last season, underperform in their first season under new head coach Enzo Maresca. However, it is improbable that the team will collapse and end worse than 14th. Chelsea started the 2024–25 season with a mixed bag of results, defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers 6-2 after losing 2-0 to Manchester City. Before the international break, they will host Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
On the first weekend, United defeated Fulham, but they later suffered a 2-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion. On Sunday afternoon, when Arne Slot makes his first visit to Old Trafford, they play host to rivals Liverpool.
The agreement was confirmed at 19:30 on Saturday, almost twenty-four hours after the window had closed. Despite making his way back into Erik ten Hag's plans throughout the preseason, Sancho departs United. This summer, after spending the previous season on loan at Borussia Dortmund and being kept out of the Dutchman's first team setup, he was brought back into the fold. Sancho, nevertheless, was permitted to pursue a transfer after being kept out of United's matchday lineup for their opening two Premier League games of the season.
