Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez has withdrawn from the Spanish U-21 national team squad due to a muscular injury, according to Sportskeeda. The 21-year-old was set to feature in the upcoming U-21 Euro qualifiers against Scotland and Hungary but will now be sidelined for up to a month.

Lopez's injury is the latest setback for Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, who has already seen several key players succumb to injuries this season. Gavi and Frenkie De Jong are long-term absentees, while Ansu Fati and Marc Bernal have also picked up injuries in recent weeks.

The news will come as a disappointment to Lopez, who had been called up to the U-21 squad despite a busy summer that saw him represent Spain at Euro 2024 and the Olympics. The midfielder had established himself as a regular at Barcelona, earning the trust of Flick despite missing the entire pre-season.

In Lopez's absence, Barcelona teammate Pablo Torre has been invited to join the U-21 squad as a late replacement. Torre, 21, has already made an impact at Barcelona, scoring against Olot and Manchester City in pre-season and featuring in the 7-0 thrashing of Real Valladolid this season.

Flick will be hoping that Lopez returns to fitness as soon as possible, given the midfielder's importance to the team. The German tactician has already had to contend with a number of injuries this summer, and Lopez's absence will only add to his selection headaches.
