Veteran Ghanaian actress and media personality, Grace Omaboe popularly known as Maame Dokono, has welcomed the idea of having a statue erected in her honour at the popular Maame Dokono Park in Ghana’s capital city of Accra.
In her response to the question as to whether she thinks the country has honoured her enough, Maame Dokono answered that she has been honoured but she thinks that it would be more honourable to have her statue or bust erected at the Maame Dokono Park in Accra.
She emphasized that such a monument would go a long way to preserve her legacy and motivate the younger generations to emulate her good deeds; however, she doesn’t want to force it on anyone to erect her statue.
“Yes! I think there should be my statue there for my legacy to be in the minds of the little ones who are coming because I am even in their books.”
“If something like that could be erected in my honour, it will be a nice thing. I am not forcing anybody to do it but if it is done, fine!” She told Blakk Rasta in an interview on the Urban Blend show on 3FM.
Grace Omaboe affectionately called Maame Dokono has over five decades graced the silver screens of many Ghanaians with her exceptional acting skills in movies and drama performances. Her passion and compassion for the vulnerable motivated her to establish the Peace and Love orphanage to take care of orphans and the less privileged children in Ghanaian society.
Maame Dokono turned eighty years old in June 2024 and is set to crown her 80th-anniversary celebrations with the launch of her book which is a memoir covering all aspects of her life both public and private on 7 September 2024.
