Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala recently disclosed that he had a light-hearted conversation with his close friend Joshua Zirkzee about the possibility of joining Manchester United. However, Musiala clarified that the discussion was more of a playful exchange between friends rather than a serious consideration of transferring to Old Trafford.
Zirkzee, who completed a £36.5 million move from Bologna to Manchester United during the summer transfer window, has maintained a strong friendship with Musiala since their days together in Bayern Munich's academy. Despite Zirkzee's success in Italy, where he had two impressive seasons, the 23-year-old Dutchman remained close with Musiala, who had a standout performance for Germany at Euro 2024.
Following his transfer to United, Zirkzee was filmed humorously suggesting that he tried to convince Musiala to join him at the club. In an interview with Welt am Sonntag, Musiala confirmed that they did talk about the possibility, but emphasized that it was all in good fun. He mentioned that friends often joke about playing together, saying, "The jokes go both ways: I also told Josh that he should come back to Bayern. But you shouldn't take that too seriously."
Zirkzee has made an encouraging start at Manchester United, scoring one goal in three appearances so far, including a late winner against Fulham on the opening day of the Premier League season. However, the team has faced setbacks, suffering defeats to Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool.
On the other hand, Musiala has also begun the 2024/25 season well, scoring one goal in his first two Bundesliga matches with Bayern Munich. Despite his impressive performances for both club and country over the past year, Musiala was notably excluded from the 30-player shortlist for the Ballon d'Or, which sparked some controversy.
As for Musiala's future at Bayern, there has been some speculation, particularly since his current contract is set to expire in 2026. No agreement has been reached yet regarding a contract extension, which leaves questions about his long-term commitment to the German champions.
