The star of Bayern Munich, Jamal Musiala, has admitted that he had a discussion about joining Manchester United with his close friend Joshua Zirzkee, but they were only joking about.
After spending two excellent seasons playing in Italy and coming through the Bayern academy, Zirkzee secured a £36.5 million move from Bologna to United during the summer transfer window.
Before departing for fresh adventures, the 23-year-old Dutchman earned 17 appearances for the senior team. He is still close friends with Musiala, who excelled for Germany during the summer at Euro 2024.
Not long after joining the Red Devils, Zirkzee was caught on camera telling supporters he attempted to persuade Musiala to come back to Old Trafford to be with him again.
Musiala disclosed in an interview with Welt am Sonntag that the two did discuss the German playmaker joining Zirkzee in Manchester; however, it was the type of talk in which close friends jest about being teammates.
You always make jokes with your friends and hope to play on the same team someday," Musiala explained. Jokes are reciprocal: I also suggested to Josh that he return to Bayern. That being said, don't take anything too seriously."
Zirkzee came off the bench to score the game-winning goal against Fulham on the first day of the Premier League season, although he has only scored one goal in his three appearances for United this season. But since then, the Red Devils have lost to Liverpool and Brighton & Hove Albion.
As for Musiala, he has scored one goal in his first two Bundesliga games with Bayern to begin the 2024–2025 season. Despite his excellent accomplishments for club and country over the past year, he was controversially left off the 30-player shortlist of Ballon d'Or hopefuls earlier this week.
Since Musiala's contract expires in 2026 and a new agreement has not yet been struck, his future at Bayern Munich has been up in the air.
