Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala has revealed Joshua Zirkzee tried to persuade him to join Manchester United this summer.
Zirkzee joined United from Bologna for a fee of around £36million and he made headlines after telling a fan he had already "tried" to get Musiala to join him. The pair were previously teammates at Bayern and went on holiday to Los Angeles together following Euro 2024.
In a clip that went viral on social media, a fan who was getting her shirt signed by Zirkzee outside Carrington asked the forward: "Can you tell Musiala to join United?" To which Zirkzee smiled and replied: "I've tried. I've tried!"
And it seems the Dutchman was telling the truth, with Musiala asked about the exchange by German newspaper Welt am Sonntag. "You always joke around with friends and dream of playing together in a team one day," he replied.
"The jokes go both ways: I also told Josh that he should come back to Bayern. But you shouldn't take that too seriously." There has been plenty of speculation about Musiala's future, with the 21-year-old's current contract due to expire in 2026.
And when asked directly if he would be staying at Bayern, Musiala said: "I am very happy at FC Bayern and fully focused on our goals with the club and the national team. I don't think too much about where I will be playing in five years.
"Things can always change quickly in the world of football." Bayern are desperate to keep him, with sporting director Max Eberl hailing Musiala as "outstanding" after his impressive performances during the Euros.
"We are delighted with the great performances of Jamal and the entire national team at the European Championships," Eberl told BILD. "Jamal is providing absolute highlights at this tournament and is bringing a lot of joy to the German fans.
"FC Bayern's aim is to have a very good team, and to do that we need very good individual players. Jamal is an outstanding player, and he also comes from our campus. That's why he is already a face of FC Bayern. We are happy to have him with us."
