With his previous team, Borussia Dortmund, former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will take charge of a testimonial game set up for two of his former players.

Following an incredibly successful eight and a half-year tenure that saw the team win the Premier League for the first time in thirty years and the UEFA Champions League for the sixth time, Klopp announced in January that he would leave Liverpool at the end of the 2023–2024 season.

Since then, the German has hinted that he's had enough about managing and has distanced himself from taking over as England's manager from Gareth Southgate.

But for one night only, he will be back in charge of Borussia Dortmund, managing a group of former players who will pay tribute to Lukasz Piszczek and Jakub Blaszczykowski's achievements.

Both were key players in Dortmund's back-to-back Bundesliga title victories under Klopp in 2010–2011 and 2011–12. They also propelled the team to the 2013 Champions League final, where Dortmund was defeated by fierce rivals Bayern due to a thrilling 89th-minute winner by Arjen Robben.

Pictures on Dortmund's social media channels showed Klopp donning the club's famous black and yellow, with a video skit involving Piszczek and Blaszczykowski showing how they 'made the decision' to bring back their former manager for the game.

Piszczek said to Blaszczykowski, "We need a coach, and I have an idea, we'll call the retired coach."

Then, wearing sunglasses, Klopp makes an appearance and says, "This is your last game at last. God, I'm so sorry. And before to the game, you should train. Are you illiterate?

Following Brendan Rodgers' dismissal from the team, Klopp's success at Dortmund lured Liverpool to recruit him in October 2015. Seven months later, the Reds were runners-up in the Europa League.

Under Klopp, Liverpool had won the FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Premier League, and Champions League by 2020. In the last years of Klopp's tenure on Merseyside, the team experienced more domestic cup success.
