After Mike Maignan's dressing room statement following France's 3-1 loss to Italy on Friday, Kylian Mbappe reportedly lost his voice.

Despite taking the lead in the first minute of play, Les Bleus' 2024–25 UEFA Nations League campaign got off to a bad start when they were defeated by Italy, the Euro 2020 winners.

Mbappe failed to put his name on the scoresheet after having three goals in five games during his stellar start to life at Real Madrid. However, after the terrible loss, what really stuck with me were the sights in the changing room.

When his squad returned to the dressing room, France custodian Maignan reportedly chastised them for their lack of effort on the pitch, according to L'Equipe. The report continues by alleging that as Maignan devastated the team, captain Mbappe and vice captain Antoine Griezmann had little to say.

We keep what we say in the locker room to ourselves," he declared.

"We faced a large side that played solid team defence. We must go on. We are unable to keep a clean sheet in every game. Both the group and I are finding it difficult at the moment.

"We'll talk about it. You don't need to be concerned. It's not the end of the world when you lose a game. Everybody has a part to perform on the pitch. It's clear that we need to improve; this French team needs to prevail. We're going to examine ourselves, not offer justifications, and keep going."

France will play their first game back at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais on Monday against Belgium.
