Caoimhin Kelleher, who has failed to establish himself as Anfield's first choice custodian, has expressed his wish to quit the club.

The Irish international played 26 games for Liverpool previous season, mostly in the Europa League. He joined the Merseyside club's senior squad in 2019. However, with Giorgi Mamardashvili expected to join the team in the summer, his status as the team's backup custodian appears to be in jeopardy.

Alisson starts in goal for the majority of Liverpool's games, but Kelleher has acknowledged that he wants to be the "number one" goalie and that he might have to seek elsewhere in order to advance.

"I want to be the best player and play every week," he said reporters while representing the Republic of Ireland on an international level in the past few years. "The team decided to acquire a new custodian. From the outside looking in, it appears that they have chosen to take a different course.

"Over the past few seasons, I've made it quite evident that I want to be ranked first. It may appear to be entirely my choice from the outside looking in, but that isn't always the case."

"My mission was to go out and play, and be a number one," he said in response to a question about whether he was close to leaving Anfield this summer. According to reports, Liverpool turned down a couple more bids as well."

Kelleher did not play under Arne Slot this season after graduating from Liverpool's junior team in 2019. He did, however, play a part in Ireland's inaugural UEFA Nations League match on Saturday, a 2-0 loss to England.

He will make another appearance on Tuesday when Ireland plays Greece.

Caoimhin Kelleher has revealed his desire to leave Liverpool after failing to become a first-choice goalkeeper at Anfield.

The Irish international - who joined the Merseyside club's senior side in 2019 - made 26 appearances last season for Liverpool, most notably in the Europa League. However, his position as the club's second-choice shot-stopper looks to be under threat, with Giorgi Mamardashvili set to arrive next summer.
