FC Barcelona has made significant moves in the transfer market by unveiling Ghanaian youngsters Abdul Aziz Issah and David Oduro. Issah, who has joined on a season-long loan from Dreams FC, has the option for a permanent deal at the season's end. Oduro, on the other hand, has signed a three-year contract with Barcelona after a standout stint with Accra Lions.
Both players will initially compete for Barcelona B, aiming to make an impression and potentially secure a spot in the first team. Oduro, who joins as the first player transferred directly from a Ghanaian club to Barcelona, is especially thrilled about the move, seeing it as a historic achievement for Ghanaian football. He looks forward to learning from and playing alongside established talents like Alejandro Balde.
With the club's recent financial challenges, Barcelona has shown a willingness to invest in and promote young talent. The performances of Issah and Oduro this season could play a key role in shaping their futures at the club.
He has signed a three-year contract, becoming the first player to be transferred directly from a Ghanaian club to Barcelona.
"First of all, I’m very, very happy because getting this opportunity is not very easy, especially from Ghana here. So, for me, I’m very happy," he told Sporty TV.
"It’s historic for Ghana, being the first player to move straightly from here to Barcelona is great news for Ghana," he added.
Oduro has previously been compared to Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies. However, he draws inspiration from Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde and looks forward to sharing the dressing room with him.
"It will be a great feeling because I have always watched him play and I admire him a lot, so it will be a great feeling for me," he said.
Oduro will start at Barcelona B. Given the club's current financial situation and their track record of trusting young players, he could make his first-team debut if he impresses this season.
