Argentina is the current holder of the FIFA World Cup, and this was largely due to the efforts of Lionel Messi. The Inter Miami star led the team to the trophy with crucial goals and adding to his national team goal tally.

According to an Instagram post on Score 90's account, the 8-time Ballon d'Or award winner is the highest goalscorer in the history of the Argentine national team. The former Barcelona star has scored 109 goals in 187 appearances for the national team in all competitions.

The second-highest goalscorer in the history of the Argentine national team is Gabriel Batistuta. The Fiorentina legend fondly called Batigol in his playing days was the highest goalscorer in the history of the Argentine national team until 2016, when his record was shattered by Lionel Messi. Batistuta scored 55 goals in 78 games for Argentina before retiring from national team football.

The third-highest goalscorer in the history of the Argentine national team is Sergio Aguero. The Manchester City legend scored 41 goals for the national team across 101 appearances.

Fourth on the list is Crespo, who scored 35 goals in 64 appearances, before Diego Maradona rounds up the top five list with 32 goals in 84 appearances.
