In a surprising yet thoughtful moment, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II praised Ghanaian highlife sensation Kofi Kinaata's hit song "Susuka" during his address at this year’s Ghana Bar Association's General Conference. During his speech, Asantehene cited the phrase "Obi nya way3" from the song to drive home the significance of embracing and appreciating Ghana's unique identity and what we have that other African countries lacked.
He noted that despite facing various challenges, many nations aspire to emulate Ghana's example, and encouraged citizens to ponder the profound lyrics of Kofi Kinaata's music.
The Asantehene extolled the wisdom of musicians like Kofi Kinaata, urging the audience to make time to listen to and appreciate the insightful messages in his songs.
He said, “I can think of many countries that look up to Ghana and wish they were just like us. Sometimes, listen to the wisdom of our musicians and reflect on a piece like Kofi Kinaata's 'Obi nyaway3' which means 'Someone wishes they were like you."
Otumfuo's words sparked a round of applause from the audience, and showed their appreciation for his thoughtful words.
Receiving a nod of approval from Asantehene is certainly a big deal for any Ghanaian musician, and Kofi Kinaata is over the moon with excitement.
He took to social media to share the unforgettable moments with his fans, relishing the joy and prestige that comes with this royal recognition.

This isn't the first time the musician has received high-profile accolades; notably, former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo has publicly professed her admiration for him, even going so far as to declare him her favourite artist. The likes of gospel singer, Ohemaa Mercy and politician, Nii Lante Vanderpuye have equally extolled his exceptional skills as a good lyricist.
