According to rumours, David Datro Fofana, a striker for Chelsea, is poised to finish his loan move to AEK Athens.

The 21-year-old Fofana, who was included to Chelsea's "bomb squad" of exiled players, had a good loan spell at Burnley during the second half of the previous season, but he was unable to arrange a move away before the Premier League's transfer window closed, putting him in limbo.

Before the Greek transfer market closed, AEK Athens was expected to be the team to court Fofana. However, preliminary discussions broke down; however, according to Nizaar Kinsella, talks have since reopened and a satisfactory outcome is imminent.

Fofana has approved the loan swap to the Greek team, and the conditions of the agreement—which includes a Ł20 million option to make the move permanent—have been worked out.

That amount is around four times higher than the current transfer record for AEK Athens, which was the Ł5.5 million purchase of Orbelin Pineda in 2023.

Before completing his relocation, Fofana is now having a medical examination. On Wednesday night the Greek transfer window closes.

If everything goes according to plan, Chelsea will only have one spot available for an international loan after using four for Djordje Petrovic (all Strasbourg), Aaron Anselmino (Boca Juniors), Andrey Santos, and Caleb Wiley.
