Sam Kerr's ACL recovery is drawing to a conclusion, and she has not set a timetable for when she will return to the pitch for the upcoming 2024–25 Barclays Women’s Super League season.

The striker, who this summer extended her Chelsea contract for a further two years, was sidelined by injury in January and missed a significant portion of the previous campaign.

Kerr suffered a catastrophic blow during a warm-weather training camp in Morocco, which prevented her from competing for Chelsea in the thrilling title match and from representing her nation in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Kerr emphasised that she isn't hurrying back, despite saying this week that she is "close to getting back on the pitch".

The 31-year-old clarified to Optus Sport, saying, "The injury is good. I simply want to make sure I get it perfect and feel good before I return to the field. I'm not planning on returning on a specific day.

Since this is my second ACL, I understand that you must take your time, make sure everything is done correctly, and I will do everything within my power. However, I'm in no rush because I want to make sure I can continue playing for a very long time."

After joining Chelsea before the second half of the 2020–21 season, the striker soon rose to prominence as one of the most well-known athletes in the world. After placing third the previous two years, she was awarded runner-up for the Women's Ballon d'Or last year because to her outstanding on-field accomplishments.

She had scored 99 goals for Chelsea in her career prior to her injury, and if she completely recovers, she will undoubtedly want to add to that total. However, Emma Hayes announced her departure from the team during Kerr's recuperation, which means Kerr will rejoin the team under new manager Sonia Bompastor.

Kerr acknowledged that the initial days following Hayes' departure were "a bit weird," but she also appreciated Bompastor's charisma and his contribution to the squad.

"Sonia's come in and done really well to implement her own personality on the team, and we're all enjoying it so far," she remarked. She is, first and foremost, French and extremely French. She has a strong sense of humour and levity, but she is also rather rigorous.
