After returning from Uruguay's international duty, Manuel Ugarte is set to make his debut this weekend against Southampton, according to Erik ten Hag.

On deadline day, Ugarte, the newest addition to the Red Devils, signed a long-term contract at Old Trafford, ending one of the longest-running transfer sagas of the summer. The midfielder was introduced to United fans before of their humiliating 3-0 defeat to rivals Liverpool, but is yet to make his debut under Ten Hag.

Nonetheless, the United manager has provided an update on when supporters might anticipate seeing him play, stating that Ugarte is, in fact, "available" for Saturday's trip to Southampton.

Nonetheless, the United manager has provided an update on when supporters might anticipate seeing him play, stating that Ugarte is, in fact, "available" for Saturday's trip to Southampton.

"We've all watched Manuel Ugarte play for Uruguay," the Dutchman said to the press. "He returned this afternoon, he was the only player who returned today, all the others returned yesterday so he is available for this game."

He continued by confirming that Luke Shaw and Rasmus Hojlund are still unavailable but are "progressing very well."

United defeated Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool in their opening games of the 2024–25 season. With only three points as of right now, they will be hoping to get better when the season returns.

Ten Hag responded, "We will see where we are in May next year, it is very early in the season and it is about winning trophies, being as high as possible in the league, do everything to win every game and then we will see in May where we are in the league," to the question of whether or not United's performance will improve.

I am aware of our current position in the process, our goals, and what has to be done. We still have a lot of young players to integrate; this is a transitional process. Injuries still need to be addressed, as well as player return to the club.

"We have to win every game, no matter who thinks of an excuse. I am aware of that. The group is aware of this. We'll concentrate on each game and approach each one with the winning mentality."

United's next game is a trip to St. Mary's on Saturday to play Southampton, who was just promoted. Then, on Tuesday at Old Trafford, they will play Barnsley of League One in the Carabao Cup.
