CHALONG PAKDEEVIJIT PASSES AT AGE 93

Thailand’s famous film director and actor, Chalong Pakdeevijit, died on September 13, 2024 at 93 from pulmonary edema. Basically, he was Boonchalong Pakdeevijit, born on March 18, 1931, in Si Phraya, Bang Rak Bangkok He made his contribution in Thai film industry more than seven decades and leading figure in the Thai cinema.


The growing up of Chalong Pakdeevijit in Bangkok area prepared him for the art of narration and acting. Chalong Pakdeevijit continued his education at the famous Amnuay Silpa School where he was able to enhance on his artistic abilities. Chalong Pakdeevijit entered the film industry in early 1950s and without much delay he carved a niche for himself in the film industry as a filmmaker, director as well as producer.


The success of Chalong Pakdeevijit’s career is a clear characteristic of his extremely significant impact on the developing Thai cinema, Thong jaraks from the Thong Anthology of Thai films that won the popularity in Thai popular culture. His popular movies include “Thong” (Gold) (1973) upon which other sequels followed namely; “Thong 2” (Gold Raiders) (1982) and “Thong 10” (2016). Adventurous dramatic and humor filled films were some of the successful themes that were created for audiences of all ages.


Besides directing, the man was a great cinematographer, so Chalong Pakdeevijit was able to give each project his vision of the movie’s look. Movies such as ‘Raya’ (1998), ‘Chumphae’ (2007) and ‘Sao Har’ (2011) were able to demonstrate Chalong Pakdeevijit’s flair in both narratives and visuals, thus making him more of a cinema-oriented filmmaker.


Chalong Pakdeevijit married twice, she having the first marriage with Sumon Pakdeevijit in 1966 and unfortunately he died in the year 2014 this year. Chalong Pakdeevijit later married Pimsupak Insee in 2014 Years Active : 2001-Present He is survived by his three children: , Cherd and Boonjira Pakdeevijit who further are carrying his legacy forward in their respective careers.

To this end, Chalong Pakdeevijit positively impacted the many up-and-coming filmmakers and actors in Thailand and has provided them the opportunity to further develop Thai cinema. Thai film was boosted on both domestic and international level through its humor and touching narratives his targeted-communication technique made him iconic.


The death of Chalong Pakdeevijit is the loss of an icon for Thai movie makers and anyone who enjoys Thialand’s moviemaking history for that matter but he will always be in the heart of those people involved in moviemaking in Thailand. Nonetheless, he played the role of pioneer in the Thai cinema and his` creative passion and endeavors in this field will surely influence the growth of this industry in the future years.
