Erik ten Hag blasts Premier League decision and supports Marcus Rashford

Manchester United returned from the international break with an easy 3-0 victory over Southampton at St Mary's, with Marcus Rashford scoring.

Erik ten Hag issued a passionate defence of Marcus Rashford after the Manchester United forward's season took off at Southampton. When asked what Rashford's red-hot performance could do for his confidence, the Dutchman, who believes Rashford was harshly chastised following the 3-0 defeat to Liverpool, said: "This is very significant.

"We don't listen to what the outside world is telling us. However, there was too much hatred directed at him after Liverpool because he produced two wonderful chances, 100% chances, in that game. He has also performed admirably in previous games this season. He deserved a goal, but you must work for it. "That is what he is doing at the moment, and you will receive a reward. He scored an excellent goal. He has already scored several goals for Manchester United. For his age, he has an impressive amount of objectives, and I am confident he will achieve many more.

"For every striker, getting on the scoring list is critical to starting the season. Building momentum and belief can lead to achieving further goals.A striker once mentioned a ketchup bottle, saying, "Once it's gone, it's coming again." "Once a striker was talking about a ketchup bottle, once it's going, it's coming more." Ten Hag also criticised the Premier League's "unfair TV schedule" after United fans were forced to travel 225 miles to St Mary's for a Saturday lunchtime kick-off. He went on to say, "It is extremely unfair for the fans to have to deal with this." It is not appropriate to play away games at 8 p.m. on Saturdays or at 12:30 p.m.

But they're always there. I am quite proud of our fans. They are constantly present, and no matter what happens on the pitch, they always support the team. As you can see today, there is a very strong link. They create a great atmosphere at Old Trafford as well as away games, and I believe the Premier League should include this in their fixture list."

Despite the long away trip following the international break, Ten Hag was not prepared to make excuses - happily, his team delivered the goods at St Mary's. He continued, "It's a significant disadvantage, but we must deal with it." They did it today. The players are mature. It doesn't matter; we always have to win. We can't make any excuses for not winning a game.
