Ange Postecoglou's six-word assessment says everything as Spurs lose another north London derby.
Ange Postecoglou watched on as Tottenham failed to win another north London derby, with the Australian seeing old weaknesses cost them in their defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.
Ange Postecoglou groaned, "I think I've said my piece" as he lamented Tottenham's inability to capitalize on their dominance. The Australian witnessed his Tottenham team lose again in a north London derby, as Arsenal took all three points home. It's a similar narrative for Postecoglou's team, who once again gained command of a game before losing to Gabriel's header. Dominic Solanke squandered first-half opportunities as he seeks to establish himself with his new club. The hosts continued to have the majority of the ball, but they were unable to test David Raya as the Arsenal backline held firm despite repeated raids.
Tottenham's terrible record from set pieces was highlighted once again, as the Gunners, who have thrived from set pieces, were able to convert one. Gabriel walked home uncontested as Postecoglou expressed his dissatisfaction with his team's shortcomings in both boxes. He told Sky Sports: "I thought it was a close game all the way through. We had most of it under control and were off to a terrific start. We failed to seize on opportunities and were unable to keep up with them. We lost attention on the goal. We have some big guys in there that really attack the ball, and we just switched off for a while.
"I believe I have stated my piece. For the most part, we controlled the game today, with good territory and possession, but we didn't take advantage of it, and we were penalized." Tottenham have already had to reflect on games in which they controlled but failed to win. They were the better team in this season's games against Leicester and Newcastle, but they only got one point out of six. Son Heung-min mirrored his manager's sentiments, expressing his unhappiness with their ongoing set piece troubles and demanding more from the forward players.
He stated, "We dominated the game, the football was there; we simply conceded from a set piece again. We did that last season, and it is quite annoying. I'm sure the fans are likewise disappointed. We have to improve 100%; it's a difficult time, and we must remain together. "We're getting into the final third, but the players must take responsibility for scoring." Making the right judgment while remaining clinical is the most difficult aspect of football. We will come back strong; there is a long way to go."
