Ghana has taken a bold step into the future by becoming the second African nation to launch a groundbreaking Knowledge and Skills portal. This innovative platform opens up access to over five million online library archives, learning tools, and educational resources, making it a game-changer for students across all levels of education. The portal was officially launched on September 17, 2024, in Accra, in a ceremony led by the Education and Communications Ministries.

Built by Impomtuo Technologies, a 100% Ghanaian-owned company, the platform represents a major milestone in the country’s educational journey. With strong support from telecommunications giant MTN and funding from the World Bank, the portal promises to revolutionize how knowledge is accessed and shared in Ghana.

Speaking at the launch, Communications Minister, Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, expressed her excitement about this new development, describing the platform as a key tool for empowering students in the digital age. "This portal was designed to align with our approved curriculum, and it integrates artificial intelligence, making it not only a leader in Africa but also a top contender globally," she stated. She highlighted the fact that students, regardless of their location or school, now have the opportunity to access a wealth of knowledge at their fingertips.

One of the standout features of the platform is the inclusion of TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) courses, which is set to benefit technical students by equipping them with the practical skills needed to excel in various industries.

Hon. Owusu-Ekuful also pointed out that the portal will serve as a digital marketplace for Ghanaian publishers. They will have the opportunity to upload soft copies of their work, which can be sold for a fee, giving them access to a broader audience and creating more revenue streams.

Education Minister Dr. Yaw Adutwum also took the opportunity to underscore the ongoing transformation in the education sector. He dismissed claims that Ghana’s education system is deteriorating, emphasizing that initiatives like the Knowledge and Skills portal are proof of the progress being made.
