STEVE OELRICH, FORMER FLORIDA SENATOR AND ALACHUA COUNTY SHERIFF, DIES AT 78

Steve Oelrich till his demise on September 16, 2024, devoted majority of his life in the service of people as a public servant, a cop, and politician aged 78. Steve Oelrich commonly known as Oelrich made his debut on September 29, 1945, in Pensacola, Florida in the United States where he served the society in various fields including being an ensuring public servant as a sheriff and a state senator.


Steve Oelrich entered the law enforcement agencies and gained fame as the Sheriff of the Alachua County in Florida and served at this capacity from 1992 to 2006. Steve Oelrich was a very strict sheriff, with a lot of responsibility for realizing law and order in the particular area. Steve Oelrich's service lasted a decade and in his leadership period, the following efficiencies which enhanced public order and relations were accomplished.


But in 2006, Steve Oelrich left the world of journalism for politics, joining the Republican party to become a member of the Florida Senate. Steve Oelrich was a member of the 14th district and he was in the post up to 2012. Of particular interest to the present study, as a state senator Steve Oelrich served on committees addressing a number of legislative areas, including criminal justice, legal and safety affairs, and transportation and economic development. During Steve Oelrich's tenure at the house he was instrumental in formulation of local legislation and was perceived by his peers as practical down to earth leader.


In his personal life, which is very little is known, Steve Oelrich’s happiness and sorrow are indicated. Steve Oelrich got married twice, to Rose Mary Treadway having three sons. Steve Oelrich was survived by three sons, all of whom grew up to become prominent sons of the region, one of them, Nick, who however, died a young man. Steve Oelrich has one business person as a son named Ivan from Gainesville, and the other son Kenneth who was a U. S. Marine Corps Sergeant in the past is also a student of Jacksonville University. Steve Oelrich later wedded to Cynthia Jones Steinemann who is still alive.


It is hope that this testimony to Steve Oelrich’s service and leadership and dedication to his community. Steve Oelrich's death is a sad lose to the people who knew him both formally and informally. He will be remembered through his work in law enforcement as well as the Florida Senate.
