On Sunday, August 4, a group of 14 young men embarked on a journey from Togo to Russia, lured by the promise of lucrative jobs in security and agriculture by a Ghanaian individual named Mr. Abraham Boakye, renowned as a supporter of the black stars under the moniker One Man. Arriving in Russia on August 6, their initial excitement soon turned into a nightmare of unforeseen proportions.
After their arrival, the men were directed to Kostroma, a Russian city, to sign what they believed to be employment contracts. This seemingly routine task took a dark turn when they realized that they had unwittingly entangled themselves in a grim reality. In a heart-wrenching video call, Godwin recounted how they had been misled by a contractor who had promised them opportunities on behalf of Mr. Abraham Boakye.
Convinced by Mr. Abraham's assurances that the documents presented by the Russian military were training agreements, the men proceeded to sign them. Even in Mr. Abraham's absence on the day of signing, as he was in Moscow, his instructions were followed without question.
On September 17, Godwin Asediba engaged in a conversation with the three remaining survivors, now located in Ukraine Donetsk. They shared distressing details of their living conditions, including military escorts even for basic necessities like using the restroom.
During a video call with TV3’s Godwin Asediba, the 14 young men who had taken the initial journey from Togo revealed that only three individuals were still confined in a highly guarded area, awaiting potential deployment to the conflict zone.
Numerous attempts to establish contact with Mr. Abraham Boakye, the individual responsible for orchestrating their journey, yielded no success. This group of young men, initially seeking a brighter future, now find themselves in a complex and uncertain predicament, with their dreams shattered and their fates unclear.
