A strong defence is very important, especially in a fast-paced league like the English Premier League, and this is why the biggest teams in the league are the ones with the best defensive records, which are validated with clean sheets.

According to a post by Squawka on its Twitter account, Arsenal is the club with the best defence in the English Premier League in 2024 based on clean sheets kept. The Gunners have built a solid defensive foundation, which has seen them successfully shut out opposition teams on 14 occasions in the English Premier League so far in 2024.

The second-best team in this regard is Manchester City with nine clean sheets in the English Premier League in 2024. The Cityzens are the current title holders, and while their defence hasn't been as strong as past seasons, they have been able to make up for this with the output of their attackers.

Brighton and Hove Albion is the third team on the list with eight clean sheets kept in the English Premier League since the beginning of the year. The Seagulls have continued to improve with a solid start so far this season in the English Premier League.

Everton comes fourth on the list despite their league struggles last season. The Merseyside club has kept 7 clean sheets so far in 2024. Liverpool comes fifth with six clean sheets overall in the English Premier League since the beginning of the year.

Manchester United, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, and Fulham have all kept 5 clean sheets in the English Premier League since the beginning of the year, while Aston Villa rounds up the top ten list with 4 clean sheets since the turn of the year.

Arteta took his side to face Atalanta in the Champions League on Thursday night. The two sides played out a goalless draw at Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, with the Gunners taking a point thanks to David Raya's miraculous double save.

The Arsenal boss undertook his usual post-match media duties, though displayed his talent for languages. As well as speaking to English broadcasters such as TNT Sports and BBC Sport, Arteta also spoke to the Italian channels.

Footage from one of those interviews has now been publicised, leaving fans shocked by Arteta's talents. The Arsenal boss was able to give an interview more than three minutes long in fluent Italian.

That is despite Arteta having never played in Italy during the course of his career. His coaching career has also only see him work at clubs in the English Premier League.

Arteta though is fluent in Spanish, Basque, Catalan and English, as well as being able to speak French, Italian and even Portuguese.

During his various press conferences on Thursday night, Arteta made it clear he was happy with his side's performance. He admitted though that they were indebted to Raya for his saves.

"I think we started the game really well in the first 20, 25 minutes. I think we played with the ball in the right areas, with a lot of intention and were effective, but without creating too many clear-cut chances," he said.

"After that, we lost control of the game because we were very inconsistent with the ball, giving a lot of simple balls away - and against a team that are man-to-man [that] costs you moments to transition.

"The moment you lose your man, there is a space and you are in equal numbers in the backline or overloaded. Defensively we didn’t suffer - that’s the reality. But in the second half we gave a penalty away.

"I witnessed two of the best saves I’ve probably ever seen in my career to save us from that moment. After that, the game continued in the same way as after the first 25 minutes. We were inconsistent with the ball.

"We had moments but we never got it to dominance or a threat. Then we had a big chance with Gabi Martinelli to win the game, which unfortunately didn’t go in. [Overall] there’s a lot to improve."
