In a world where everyone strives to be noticed, to stand out, and to be chosen for success or recognition, the Christian faith offers a path that defies conventional wisdom. Being set apart doesn’t come from self-promotion, flashy displays, or seeking attention. Instead, it comes from a quiet but powerful set of principles that reflect the heart of God. If you long to be the “chosen one,” these are the steps you need to take.
The first and most essential step is humility. While society often rewards arrogance and pride, scripture teaches that true exaltation comes from a humble heart. James 4:10 advises, “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.” This isn’t about belittling yourself but about recognising your need for God’s guidance in every aspect of life. When you embrace humility, you create space for God to work in ways that elevate you far beyond your capabilities.
Humility is closely tied to obedience—doing what is right, even when it’s difficult or unnoticed. One of the greatest examples of this is found in the life of King David. Before he was chosen to be king, David was simply a shepherd, faithfully tending his father’s sheep. He wasn’t in the palace, nor was he fighting for recognition. To be chosen by God is not about gaining power or recognition; it’s about using your gifts and opportunities to serve those around you. Jesus set the ultimate example by washing His disciples’ feet, showing that greatness in God’s kingdom comes through humility and service. Another powerful way to be set apart is through faithfulness. In Luke 16:10, Jesus says, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” God often chooses those who have proven themselves faithful in the small tasks, the unseen work, and the moments when no one is around to applaud. It’s in these moments that character is built and prepared for bigger responsibilities. Faithfulness in your relationships, work, and spiritual life makes you a vessel God can use for greater purposes.
Finally, prayer is the thread that ties everything together. When you live a life rooted in prayer, you remain in constant connection with God, aligning your heart with His will. Jesus often withdrew to quiet places to pray, showing that even the Son of God needed regular communion with the Father to sustain His mission. Prayer isn’t about asking to be chosen but about seeking God’s wisdom and guidance. As you deepen your prayer life, you will find that God begins to open doors and place you in positions of influence that you could never have reached on your own.

It’s by embodying the virtues of humility, obedience, integrity, service, faithfulness, and prayer. When you align your life with these Christian principles, you position yourself to be chosen—not by the standards of the world, but by the hand of God.
