Steven Gerrard made his emotions about Jurgen Klopp apparent when he quickly cut down the interview. Steven Gerrard will be glad to see Arne Slot begin his Liverpool reign well, but has said he wanted Jurgen Klopp could have remained for a few more years.
Steven Gerrard expressed his desire for Jurgen Klopp to remain in charge of Liverpool for a longer period of time than he did before Arne Slot took over. After nine years in leadership, Klopp stepped away this summer to seek new pastures, leaving behind a legacy and some heavy boots to replace. Reds fans must have been counting their blessings when new manager Slot was brought in as a replacement, as the season started off flawlessly - with the exception of a wobble against Nottingham Forest. However, in 2021, club great Gerrard expressed his thoughts on Klopp's departure from Anfield and put an end to speculation that he will succeed the German.Despite the manner Slot has begun his term on Merseyside, Gerrard believes that everyone linked with the club.
Gerrard spoke with ITV in 2021 while impressing as Rangers manager, and was asked: "There are a lot of Liverpool fans watching your success..." The 44-year-old, however, cut the question short, saying: "The Liverpool fans do not want me to be the manager of Liverpool Football Club. They want Jurgen Klopp to continue as Liverpool's manager, and I completely agree with them."We shouldn't talk about it; our club currently has one of the best managers, and I adore him. I hope he stays for another few years. But I have a job here. I don't think it's constructive to discuss this, and I hope Jurgen stays at Liverpool for many years."
Gerrard's employment in Scotland would be left behind later that year when he made the bold move to Aston Villa, returning to the Premier League. His time at Villa Park was cut short before it had began, as he was fired less than a year after taking over, having won only two of his first 13 league games in 2022/23. The next year, Gerrard found another opportunity, this time with Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq, where he now plays and is supposedly under contract until 2027.
