Later this month, Ghana will play Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium, thanks to approval from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
This choice comes in the wake of Baba Yara Stadium's recent ban because of its substandard playing surface.
CAF representatives visited the stadiums in Accra and Cape Coast last weekend to look over their prospective hosting options for the game.
Following the inspection, the Accra Sports Stadium has received conditional approval from CAF to host the event.
"After a thorough examination of the reports of the CAF independent inspection regarding the Cape Coast and Accra Sports Stadia, we are pleased to inform you that the Accra Sports Stadium has been approved to host the AFCON Qualifiers for Morocco 2025," the CAF wrote in a letter to Prosper Harrison Addo, General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA). In particular, on October 11, 2024, it will play home to Ghana vs. Sudan in Group F – Matchday 3.
"We respectfully ask that, given this approval, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the stadium management team give the necessary improvements to the pitch and other important stadium areas top priority in the days leading up to the game day to guarantee the best possible experience for the participating teams and the fans in attendance.
"Please note that CAF will continue to closely monitor the readiness of the stadium for this match, as well as for future CAF-sanctioned events."
The last time the Black Stars played a competitive game at the Accra Sports Stadium was against São Tomé and PrÃncipe, which will be the first one in three years. Since then, Kumasi and Cape Coast have hosted most of the big events.
In the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Ghana will play Sudan at home on Friday, October 11, in Matchday 3. On Monday, October 14, the team will fly to Libya to play the return leg at the Martyrs of February Stadium in preparation for Matchday 4.
The Black Stars began their qualifying campaign in third place with just one point after losing 1-0 to Angola at Baba Yara Stadium and drawing 1-1 with Nigeria's Super Eagles in Berkane.
Otto Addo and his team will try to eliminate Sudan's prospects of making it to the event, which will take place in Morocco, by winning six points.
Later this week, Otto Addo, the head coach of the Black Stars' senior national team, will reveal his starting lineup for the team's doubleheader versus the Falcons.
