Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on Ghanaians to vote against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its leader, John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming December 7 elections. Speaking at a rally in Saboba on November 23, Dr. Bawumia accused the NDC of mismanaging resources intended for the development of Ghana's five northern regions and failing to deliver on their promises during their time in power.
Central to Dr. Bawumia's criticism was the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA), a flagship initiative under the Mahama administration meant to drive socio-economic transformation in northern Ghana. According to him, the initiative fell short due to poor implementation and alleged misuse of funds.
He highlighted the controversial guinea fowl farming project under SADA, which was launched to provide economic opportunities but became infamous after reports suggested the guinea fowls had “flown to Burkina Faso.” This, he argued, symbolized the inefficiency and corruption that plagued the Mahama-led administration.
“During his time, hundreds of millions of Ghana cedis were allocated for the development of the north,” Dr. Bawumia said. “Instead of real development, we got guinea fowl farming under SADA, and today, we cannot point to any visible SADA project in the five northern regions. Where are the guinea fowls? They said they flew to Burkina Faso. And now, he wants to return to power. Do you want him to come back?”
Dr. Bawumia also underscored the lack of tangible infrastructure or economic projects in the northern regions during the NDC’s tenure. He urged Ghanaians to critically assess the track records of both parties before casting their votes, contrasting the NDC’s performance with the achievements of the NPP in the same regions.
The SADA controversy has remained a recurring theme in Ghanaian politics, often used to critique the Mahama administration’s handling of public funds and its commitment to equitable development. For Dr. Bawumia, this is a key example of why the NDC should not be trusted to return to power.
He concluded by encouraging voters to support the NPP for continued progress, emphasizing the need for leadership that prioritizes effective use of resources and delivers measurable results.
