Liverpool take on Italian opposition again after beating AC Milan 3-1 in their opening night of the revamped tournament last month, with Wednesday's opposition sitting in 13th place in Serie A.
Bologna have lost key figures such as Riccardo Calafiori, Joshua Zirkzee and manager Thiago Motta over the summer, with the trio setting sail for Arsenal, Manchester United and Juventus respectively.
However there is still quality within their ranks, and 20-year-old Polish midfielder Kacper Urbanski has become a mainstay in the first-team picture over the past year, as well picking up seven senior caps for his national team.
The former Liverpool and Poland goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek - the hero of the penalty shootout in Liverpool's unforgettable Champions League win in 2005 - is certainly a fan of Urbanski, and speaking ahead of the match he heaped praise on his young compatriot, even suggesting that he could make a more permanent switch to Anfield in the future.
“In my opinion, he would feel good in a team like Liverpool, because there are many players who play in small spaces,” Dudek told Super Express. “You can see that Kacper finds himself well in such a game. He showed it in the national team. In Bologna, he still needs those minutes, and that’s a big problem for him.
“He has to be confident and egoistic enough to get ahead of his competitors and fight for the position in the club that he has earned in the national team.
“He is an offensive player, but we need some other players around him who will allow him to extract even greater skills. If he plays at Anfield Road, it won’t be easy for him, because Liverpool narrow the playing field.
“Then he has no time for anything, and any indecision is exploited. But let him gain experience, because all this will pay off later in the national team.”
Slot is expected to make minor changes to his side for the clash at Anfield, with Liverpool going to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime.
