The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially approved the Accra Sports Stadium to host the upcoming TotalEnergies 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Matchday 3 qualifier between Ghana and Sudan. This announcement follows a thorough evaluation conducted by CAF’s independent inspection team regarding both the Cape Coast and Accra Sports Stadia.
In a letter addressed to General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo (Esq.), CAF expressed their satisfaction with the stadium's readiness. The correspondence stated: “After a comprehensive review of the inspection reports, we are pleased to inform you that the Accra Sports Stadium has been approved to host the AFCON Qualifiers for Morocco 2025. Specifically, it will accommodate the Group F – Matchday 3 clash between Ghana and Sudan, scheduled for October 11, 2024.”
CAF emphasized the importance of preparing the venue adequately and has requested that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the stadium management team prioritize necessary improvements to the pitch and other vital areas of the facility. This proactive approach aims to ensure an optimal experience for both the players and the fans attending the match.
Furthermore, the letter highlighted that CAF would continue to monitor the stadium's readiness, not only for this particular match but also for future events sanctioned by the organization. This commitment underscores CAF's dedication to maintaining high standards for the venues hosting significant international competitions.
As the date of the match approaches, the GFA and stadium management are expected to work diligently to meet the recommendations outlined by CAF. The approval of the Accra Sports Stadium marks an important milestone for Ghanaian football, as it showcases the country’s capability to host international events. Fans can look forward to an exciting encounter as Ghana faces Sudan in a crucial qualifier on the road to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The anticipation is building, and both teams will be eager to deliver a memorable performance on the day.
