Boosie Badazz, born Torrence Hatch Jr. on November 14, 1982, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is a prominent American rapper, songwriter, and actor. Originally known by the stage name Lil Boosie, he rose to fame in the Southern hip-hop scene during the early 2000s with his raw, street-inspired lyrics and energetic performances.
Boosie grew up in a tough neighborhood and faced numerous challenges, including the early loss of his father, who was murdered when Boosie was a child. His mother, a schoolteacher, tried to keep him on track, but Boosie turned to the streets and began pursuing rap as an outlet. He first gained recognition as a member of the group Concentration Camp, led by rapper C-Loc. His solo career took off with the release of albums like For My Thugz (2002) and Bad Azz (2006), which included hits such as “Zoom” and “Set It Off.”
Boosie’s style blends Southern rap traditions with deeply personal narratives, touching on poverty, violence, and survival. His ability to connect with audiences through his authentic depiction of street life has made him a significant figure in Southern hip-hop.
Despite his success, Boosie’s career has been marked by legal troubles. In 2010, he was sentenced to prison for drug-related charges and later faced murder charges, for which he was acquitted in 2012. Boosie served time for other charges and was released in 2014. His time in prison was highly publicized, and upon his release, he adopted the name Boosie Badazz to mark a new chapter in his life.
Since then, Boosie has continued to release music prolifically, including albums like Touch Down 2 Cause Hell (2015) and Boosie Blues Café (2018). He’s also become known for his candid, sometimes controversial social media presence, where he discusses a wide range of topics including his views on the music industry, personal issues, and social matters.
Boosie is also known for overcoming a serious health scare after being diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2015, from which he successfully recovered after surgery. His resilience, both personally and professionally, has made him a respected figure in hip-hop.
