Afrifa Yamoah Ponko, a former board member of Asante Kotoko, went dead. This was a great loss for Ghana's football and political communities.

In addition to being well-known in the sporting world, he was also a key member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Before his demise on Sunday, October 6, 2024, Ponko, who was in his 60s, had been fighting a protracted illness for a few weeks, according to Metro TV.

Ponko made significant contributions to local government and development while serving as the Chief Executive of the Ejisu/Juaben Municipal Assembly, in addition to his affiliation with Asante Kotoko.

He was well-respected for his leadership in these fields.

Although the reason for his demise remains undisclosed, his departure has created a vacuum in Ghanaian politics and football.

Ponko's commitment to sports development and public service throughout his career will live on in his memory.

Kwesi Appiah leaves his position as Ghana FA ExCo before the Black Stars vs. Sudan match.

Kwesi Appiah, a former coach for Ghana, has announced his temporary resignation from the Ghana Football Association's (GFA) Executive Council.

This move comes in response to a direction from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which communicated to Appiah through the GFA that he had to resign from a position in advance of Ghana and Sudan's upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Appiah is a member of the GFA Executive Council in addition to being the head coach of the Sudanese national team.

The request from CAF seeks to eliminate any possible conflict of interest.

Appiah has temporarily resigned from his Executive Council responsibilities through November by this mandate.

"Coach Kwasi Appiah has temporarily stepped away as an Executive Council member of the GFA till the end of November 2024," said his spokesperson, Asante Forkuo. This decision was made to avoid any conflicts of interest in response to the correspondence from the CAF that was copied to the GFA. Appiah has not taken part in any EXCO events since the start of the AFCON qualifiers."

Appiah was chosen to represent Asante Kotoko in the GFA Executive Council.

On Thursday, October 10, the Accra Sports Stadium will host the first game of the doubleheader versus Sudan. The Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya will host the second leg on October 14.
