At a rally in the Zongo community, the chief of that community praised the vice president, Mahamudu Bawumia, with revelations of how the Free SHS policy has transformed family affairs around the region. Speaking before a cheering crowd of supporters, the chief reiterated that they would vote for Bawumia not because he is a Muslim, adding that the vote will be based on the realities on the ground, where the Free SHS policy has transformed the lives of their children and the general community.

The chief then elucidated that prior to the inception of Free SHS, a majority of families could not afford secondary education for their kids. He said, "The burden of school fees and related expenses often kept our children out of school or were forcing us into painful choices. Free SHS has opened up opportunities to many young people who otherwise would have no hope of continuing their education.

Since its introduction, the Free SHS policy has paved the way for many students from various walks of life to attain education without tuition fee impediments. The policy, he indicated, has ensured that not only has the enrolment in schools within the community increased, but the performance in schools has also been upgraded. "Our children are now able to focus on their studies rather than how to pay for school. This policy has given them strength and created hope for a good future, he added.

As the 2024 elections draw closer, the chief urged his community to take cognizance of the good works that the Bawumia administration has brought into their lives and asked them to vote based on achievements and not faith. "We want a leader who understands our struggles and is committed to the welfare of our children. Bawumia has proven himself in this regard, and we owe it to our future to support him," he said.

The rally closed with chants of support for Bawumia, as those present showed their determination to be heard in the coming elections. The chief's endorsement represents a fast-growing consensus within the Zongo community, as voters prioritize policy representing issues touching their lives and that of their children.
