Accra, Ghana – The National Peace Council of Ghana recently
held a pivotal forum in the capital, aimed at guiding prophets on the
responsible handling of their prophetic messages during the upcoming election
season. The forum was part of broader efforts to prevent unrest that could stem
from public prophecies about political outcomes. The event, held in Accra, was
facilitated by the immediate past Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle
Opoku Onyinah.
During the discussions, a key concern was raised by one of
the attending prophets, who highlighted the lack of respect politicians show
towards pastors and prophets, despite seeking their support during election
campaigns. In response, Apostle Onyinah emphasized that this lack of respect
may stem from the conduct of some pastors and prophets themselves. He cited the
contradiction between prophetic declarations, where different pastors prophesy
the victory of opposing political parties, a practice that can bring disrepute
to the church and create confusion among the public.
Apostle Onyinah urged pastors and prophets to keep their
political prophecies private, warning that such public declarations have the
potential to incite unrest, especially when one prophecy inevitably fails.
"When two divergent prophecies are given, one is bound to fail, and in the
current climate, this creates division and instability," he said, urging
his fellow religious leaders to avoid placing the nation in such a precarious
situation.
He also addressed politicians and political flagbearers,
cautioning them against relying on favorable prophecies to boost their
campaigns. Instead, he advised them to run their campaigns with integrity,
trusting that God's will would be fulfilled in His time.
As the 2024 election approaches, the forum underscored the
crucial role of the religious community in promoting peace and unity in Ghana.
Apostle Onyinah concluded with a plea to the public: "Let us not rely on
prophecies when casting our votes. Instead, vote for the candidate you believe
can lead Ghana effectively."
