Asante Kotoko has declared its intention to withdraw from the Capital City Africa Cup, planned for October 12, 2024, in Washington, D.C.

The club stated that their players and technical team were unable to obtain the required travel documents in time, and they attributed their decision primarily to visa issues.

"The necessary visas for our full squad and technical team have unfortunately not been secured in time, despite ongoing discussions with the event organizers and the expectation that the visa challenges faced by our contingent would be resolved by Thursday evening, 10th October 2024," the club said in an official statement, expressing disappointment over the outcome. The club has decided that we cannot continue to participate in this year's game because of these obstacles.

Kotoko had been putting a lot of effort into finding a solution with everyone. The club stated that although they remained professional during the entire process, they ultimately decided to withdraw due to uncontrollable circumstances.

This decision demonstrates the club's dedication to "functioning under conditions that uphold our standards and values," the statement added.

"We desire to make it clear that the brand Asante Kotoko SC is not affiliated with the game or other activities related to the Capital City Africa Cup," the club added, further indicating their disassociation from the event.

The announcement may dismay Kotoko supporters, but the team is still focused on its domestic goals. On October 13, seven players and technical personnel who are currently in the United States will return to Ghana. Kotoko intends to focus their energies on their encouraging start in the Ghana Premier League after they return.

The club ended by saying, "We are grateful to our fans for their understanding and continuous support throughout this moment."

After five games, Kotoko leads the league and has an undefeated record.
