Chelsea’s first-team star was reportedly subject to a massive transfer bid in the summer, but the club decided to turn it down.
It was an extremely busy summer transfer window a few months ago at Stamford Bridge, both in terms of incomings and outgoings.
Of course, Chelsea have got rid of so many players in recent times as there’s been a big turnover of the Blues squad. It now feels they’ve landed with a talented young group and it’s coming together under Enzo Maresca’s management.
Chelsea rejected Levi Colwill bid
According to Football.London, Chelsea turned down a ‘huge offer’ from a top European club in the summer for Levi Colwill.
There’s no indication of which side submitted a bid for the 21-year-old Blues star, but we suspect the fanbase are glad the club’s recruitment team stood firm to keep him.
Colwill, who’s a Chelsea academy graduate, has played every minute of the opening seven Premier League games.
The England international is performing really well right now, which is helped by the fact he’s playing in his preferred centre-back position rather than covering at left-back.
We’d say that Colwill has quickly established himself as the first-choice option in Chelsea’s defence at centre-back. His current partner in the Premier League is Wesley Fofana, but don’t count out teammate Tosin Adarabioyo from breaking into the XI.
Colwill ticks so many boxes as a central defender in the modern game.
First of all, the left-footed centre-half is an excellent passer and super composed on the ball. Speaking via Sky Sports Premier League last season, Jamie Redknapp said Colwill’s passing is “exceptional” for a defender.
On top of that, the 21-year-old youngster defends with aggression, commitment and intelligence.
We’re also seeing him grow as a leader within this young squad, so there’s every chance he’s a long-term solution for Chelsea in their side.
