Kalvin Phillips has played for both club and country teams in the last few years alongside Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka, and Cole Palmer. But who wins? The 28-year-old midfielder, who is presently on loan from Manchester City to newly promoted Ipswich, was given the assignment to rank each of the three players in the most recent YouTube video from Sky Sports. During his time at City, Phillips has played with Foden and Palmer on the field, and he has also frequently partnered with England's Bukayo Saka.
However, it didn't take him long to prioritize Foden. "I'm going to go with Phil [Foden] at number one," he stated. "I'd heard about him before when I came to City, and the season that he had last year..." Following an incredibly successful 2023–2024 campaign, Foden defeated Rodri and Declan Rice to win the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year title with 42% of the vote.
After that, Phillips ranked Cole Palmer, a former teammate, behind Foden. "I've gone with Cole Palmer at two," he stated. "I trained with him a lot at City and seeing him get that chance at Chelsea and taking it by the scruff of the neck." Palmer has been Chelsea's best player for months. He concluded the previous season with 27 goals and 15 assists in all competitions. When given the chance, he also looks great in an England shirt. He even won the title of 2023–24 England Men’s Player of the Year, defeating Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham in the process.
Regarding Saka, the regretful Phillips ranked the Arsenal winger third."This is going to make him hate me," the midfield player chuckled. "Of the three, I'd say he has been the most reliable over the years. I'm hoping he can demonstrate that on a regular basis and have a fantastic season this year."
